Pengaruh Penambahan Konsentrasi Sodium Hypochlorite Terhadap Laju Korosi Pipa Instalasi Raw Water Pada Fire Water Tank Di Lapangan Jambaran Tiung Biru PT Pertamina EP Cepu
Abstract
The integrity of carbon steel pipes in the Fire Water system is a crucial aspect of upstream oil and gas operations, especially in the Jambaran Tiung Biru Field. The Injection pot pipes leading to the fire water tank are often vulnerable to damage due to corrosion, particularly Microbiologically Induced Corrosion (MIC), which can threaten the reliability of this safety system. This research aims to investigate the effect of injecting Sodium Hypochlorite (NaClO) as a biocide agent in controlling the corrosion rate in these pipes. The research methodology involves laboratory and field scale testing by comparing the corrosion rate under conditions without and with NaClO injection at various concentrations. The corrosion rate measurement is carried out non-destructively using the Ultrasonic Testing (UT) technique. The NDT UT technique is used to monitor the reduction in pipe wall thickness over time, which is then converted into the corrosion rate in units of mils per year (MPY). Research results indicate that the injection of NaClO (Sodium Hypochlorite) with a concentration of 6% at an optimal concentration is proven effective in suppressing microorganism growth and significantly reducing the corrosion rate. Controlling the microbial population through NaClO successfully mitigates the risk of MIC (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion), which is a dominant cause of damage. However, the study also emphasizes the need for a concentration balance, as an excessive dose of NaClO actually has the potential to increase the corrosivity of thinning in pipe installations.
