Abstract

In the oil and gas industry, the propylene refrigeration system plays an essential role in maintaining process temperature stability, particularly during the stages of gas separation and purification. One of the factors that influence the performance of this system is the flow solvent, which refers to the hydrocarbon solvent flow rate used to facilitate the separation of gas components. Variations in flow solvent affect the cooling load, which in turn impacts the compressor suction temperature and the Coefficient of Performance (COP) of the system. This study aims to analyze the effect of flow solvent on compressor suction temperature and the influence of suction temperature on the COP of the propylene refrigeration system at the Gas Processing Facility Jambaran Tiung Biru operated by PT Pertamina EP Cepu. Operational data, including pressure, temperature, and solvent flow rate, were analyzed quantitatively to calculate the COP based on thermodynamic parameters. The results indicate that an increase in flow solvent tends to raise the compressor suction temperature, followed by an increase in COP under certain operating conditions. This finding demonstrates that flow solvent has a significant effect on the thermal efficiency of the system. Therefore, controlling the flow solvent and suction temperature parameters is crucial to maintaining energy efficiency and operational stability of the propylene refrigeration system.
