Abstract

The air needed in the combustion process is taken from the surrounding air, which often contains dust and dirt. These particles can interfere with the combustion process in the combustion chamber. Therefore, an air filter is used to filter dirt that enters the carburetor. Without an air filter, the amount of air entering the carburetor will be excessive, and the air also risks carrying dust. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using the type of air filter on the power, torque, and fuel consumption produced by a 4-stroke engine. The research method used was an experimental method using a dynotest/dynamometer, which then analyzed the research data by presenting it in the form of graphs and tables. Based on the results of the study and data analysis, there was an increase in power of 0.48%, 4.8%, and 2.6% in the use of standard air filters compared to racing air filters, modified air filters, and without filters (open filters). There was an increase in torque of 2%, 4%, and 4.2% in the use of standard air filters compared to racing air filters, modified air filters, and without filters (open filters). And there is an increase in fuel consumption (more wasteful) of 12.4%, 13.2%, and 7.2% when without a filter (open filter) compared to standard air filters, racing air filters, and modified air filters.
