Development of an Android and Web-Based Transportation Management System (SMART) as a Complementary System for Official Vehicle Operations at PT PLN (Persero) UPT Madiun
Abstract
PT PLN (Persero) UPT Madiun operates official vehicles through an official application that can only issue travel orders (No Trip), leaving field technical records such as driver attendance, vehicle condition checks, and operational costs undigitalized. This study aims to develop a Transportation Management System (SMART) as a complementary system based on Android for drivers and web-based for administrators. The development uses the Waterfall model of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) with Java/Kotlin technology for Android and PHP Native with Model-View-Controller (MVC) architecture for the web side, and MySQL database. Key features include geofencing-based attendance, vehicle and driver condition checklist with photo evidence, odometer scanning using Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and fuel and toll cost recording. The system successfully digitalized the entire operational reporting process, enabling administrators to monitor active trips, print report recapitulations, and verify operational photo evidence through the web dashboard. Further development is recommended to include Single Sign-On (SSO) integration, automatic push notification module, and improved odometer scanner accuracy using machine learning.
