Abstract

Rice is an important commodity in food security, but its productivity is often threatened by diseases such as Tungro and Yellow Dwarf. Diagnosis of rice diseases usually requires special expertise, which is not always available to farmers. To overcome this, this study aims to develop an expert system based on the forward chaining method to diagnose diseases in rice plants. This system works by identifying symptoms reported by users and matching them with relevant rules. In the test simulation, when symptoms G001, G002, G003, G004, G005, G019, and G020 were detected, the system successfully identified two possible diseases, namely Tungro (R001) and Yellow Dwarf (R005). The results of the analysis showed that Tungro disease had the highest probability of 100%, while Yellow Dwarf was 40%. Thus, the main diagnosis given by the system was Tungro. These findings prove that the forward chaining method is effective in providing accurate diagnoses based on detected symptoms, so it can be a reliable solution to support disease control in rice plants.
